Scavenging
Over Halloween weekend, we also went on a neat BU-sponsored scavenger hunt through the graveyards of Boston, which they called "Mummies, Ghosts, and Graveyards!" The man in charge was really excited and wanted us to participate despite our repeated assurance we were just doing it for fun and not competitively. However, it should be noted that we would have totally kicked butt had we been fully invested in the challenge.
We skipped the first destination, which was the Museum of Fine Arts (Lolly gets free admission, but Lu would have had to pay). The second destination on the list (which was our first) was the Old Granary Burying Ground and the Memorial to John Hancock.
King's Chapel Burying Ground and the grave of Elizabeth Pain, followed by a lot of sites at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery, founded in 1831 as the first rural cemetery in the U.S.

Atlantic City
As an early bday celebration for Lolly, we journeyed to Atlantic City for the day.
It was a rocky start with Greyhound bus issues... breaking down and waiting and waiting and waiting.
But once we arrived we had a ball! We ate at an all-you-can-eat buffet at Caesars Palace (where we loaded up our purses with $20 worth of free candy) Lu loved the fried chicken and Lolly loved the mashed potatoes. We explored the boardwalk and the beach (stopping at sites like "Peanut World"). We shopped at the Tanger Outlets, where Lolly scored a great deal on designer jeans. And we wandered around the different themed casinos. We also got hit on multiple times, but that was to be expected. We also felt like total rock stars coming home at 3 a.m. even though it was way past our bedtime. AC, you were good to us!
Fashion Post 4
Lu and Lolly do Atlantic City day-to-night:
Day: Lu is loving white shorts (Express), hot pink tank top (Whimsy), black sweater (F21), black leather sandals (H&M kids).
Night: Lu is loving black dress (Gap Outlet kids), leopard print sweater (Ann Taylor) and still loving those black leather sandals.
Day: Lolly is loving comfy dress (Rue21), black sandals (Gap Outlet), pearl earrings (F21).

Our Summer Road Trip Adventures
(Adapted from Lu's blog post which you can see here)
Massachusetts
I went back to Boston to visit Catie for the 4th of July. I figured it was a very patriotic place to be and it certainly was. Freedom Fest was in full swing. Catie and I went to the top of the bell tower where Paul Revere once was, explored the Boston Islands and went on an epic, classy (and highly informative) boat tour on the Charles River.
New Hampshire
Just a short drive away from Boston, Catie and I went to the American Independence Museum in Exeter (where we went on a tour with an older British couple) and sat in a room that George Washington once ate breakfast in. We then got candy and continued on to explore Portsmouth.
Maine
Who knew that Kittery, Maine would be a short drive from New Hampshire? We took Pocahontas Road to a hiking and beach area known as Kittery Point/Fort Foster. I became very concerned about these teeny-tiny shelled creatures trying to inch their way to the ocean during low tide and began picking them up and bringing them to ocean.
Rhode Island
One fated day we dreamed up Rhode Trip - a road trip to Rhode Island and it exceeded our expectations. Rhode Island is a beautiful underrated state. We went to the county fair (CRYSTAL GAYLE! ), Newport (where we went to the beach and saw gorgeous mansions), RISD, farm country, Brown University and explored Providence.

Hipsterz
We went to this gig on Saturday. You probably didn't hear about it. It was pretty underground, definitely not mainstream. It wasn't all lame. You know. We talked about some deep stuff, and listened to some really profound music. Whatevs.

Book Review: Lady Audley's Secret
Lu takes full blame for the fact that this review is months late. Lolly read the book in a reasonable amount of time and was ready - Lu is a slacker.
LU: This book took me a while to get into. There was lots of background info and character descriptions and history. I was honestly confused and not sure I was going to get into it. However, once I got fully immersed in the story, I really liked it. It was intriguing and a clever idea. The biggest secret was something I could not have imagined. After that though, the rest of the book was pretty predictable. It left me wishing that there would be another upset. I still enjoyed reading a novel that was considered scandalous for its time.
LOLLY: Considering female authors were already frowned upon in Victorian society, I admire Ms. Braddon for daring to cross a few more boundaries. After reading the story, I decided to go over the storyline in my head again but from a different perspective -- besides the arson/bigamy/murder/intrigue aspects, it is really interesting to consider the fine line between sanity and insanity as the underlying theme of the story. The main character is especially interesting to consider under this light: is she criminally insane? Or just a little too smart for a woman of her time period?

Last Weekend in NYC
This was Catie's last weekend of her many June visits (thanks fellowship). Naturally, we had to do lots and lots!
Saturday
We met up at the Brooklyn Flea Market where we wandered around all the treasures, junk and random oddities. Lu fell in love with a desk set. We both got lots of free samples and tried some good food - a blood orange donut, grilled corn on the cob with cheese and a BBQ pork sandwich.
We then wandered around Brooklyn and picked out future apartments/townhouses. It was such a friendly neighborhood. There was even a little park close by. Lolly was feeling it so much that she started feeding the birds... she doesn't even like birds.
As we continued exploring Brooklyn we came upon an ASPCA van that had cats for adoption. Lu had to drag Lolly away and distract her with the prospect of free soda ahead. Lu had spotted people giving out what looked like Sprite. It was in fact SunDrop soda which is essentially caffeinated Sprite. We danced for free SunDrop tote bags and a random took our picture. Oh the things we'll do for free stuff... Then we headed to the Fulton Mall, which is in a less lovely part of Brooklyn. But, we did get some great deals on jewelry at Aeropostale of all places. And we met Justin Bieber.
Can you believe we're still just talking about Saturday? Then we went to a free pre-screening of "Horrible Bosses" where we got free shot glasses. It was a random takeaway that did not correlate well with the movie. Afterward, we braved Time Square for a little bit of shopping.
Sunday
After a lazy morning and church, Courtney and her roommate Rachel hosted a dinner group which on this occasion became a brinner group (breakfast for dinner). Lu and Lolly prepped batter for crepes and pancakes, shredded potatoes for hash browns, and when the guest arrived with their culinary contributions we had quite the smorgasbord! Pancakes (blueberry or s'mores), fruit salad, fresh farm eggs a la Lu (scrambled with cheese), 2 types of sausage, hash browns, bacon, juice and virgin mimosas, toppings such as whipped cream, and syrup... because there was such an abundance of breakfast fare, everyone was too full of pan Nutella cakes and having too much fun 'noshing' for crepes but chances are the batter will not go to waste and find its way into our midnight snack lineup. It was a good group of people, and though short and sweet, was a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

This month's book pick!
Lady Audley's Secret
by Mary Elizabeth Braddon (1862)
(from back of book) The flaxen-haired beauty of the childlike Lady Audley would suggest that she has no secrets. But M.E. Braddon's classic novel of sensation uncovers the truth about its herioine in a plot involving bigamy, arson and murder. It challenges assumptions about the nature of femininity and investigates the narrow divide between sanity and insanity, using as its focus one of the most fascinating of all Victorian heroines. Combining elements of the detective novel, the psychological thriller and the romance of upper class life, Lady Audley's secret was one of the most popular and successful novles of the nineteenth century and still exerts a powerful hold on readers.
We started it over the weekend and are loving it!

Book Review: The Overnight Socialite
So remember forever ago when we said we were reading this and loving it and made it seem like we'd be finishing it ASAP? Sorry about that cause clearly life got in the way and we are just getting around to writing this review (and finishing the book).
LU: A splendid read, the The Overnight Socialite by Bridie Clark was easy for me to relate to, as it follows the theme of trying to make it in the Big Apple. Fate leads Lucy Jo Ellis to meet Wyatt Hayes. It's a pretty classic setup involving two unlikely people from different social backgrounds falling in love. I liked how Lucy Jo proves that money does not buy class, personality or talent. Add in the makeover montage and this is an excellent candidate for a chick-flick (or at least a made for TV movie). Was it predictable? Yes. Was it original? Hardly. Did I still enjoy it? Of course! I'm a total sucker for these kinds of stories.
LOLS: I am also anticipating a made-for-tv movie of this book. Cheesey, yes; predictable, yes -- but in the best way. It reminded me of a more modern version of My Fair Lady (turns out I was right!). However as a critic, today I feel like being critical. As with a lot of 'girlier' books I think it focused a little bit too much on the details of story and not enough on the characters personal development (and maybe the underlying theme of contemporary social inequality). I would have liked more insight from Lucy Jo and Wyatt's perspectives as their relationship evolved, for example. Nonetheless, it fulfilled its niche as a girly feel good story, and my craving for one.

BFF Time
Aaaamzing time in NYC last week with our other Bunny, Bianca Beezy Bee.
We (Lu and Lolly) made the best muddy buddies ever and ate too many of them and went to see Red Riding Hood and had some fun adventures at the top floor of the movie theater/observation deck from which you could see the creepy giant Madame Tussaud's hand.

The next day Lolly took Bee around NYC while poor Lu worked, and then all three of them had a lovely dinner followed by BFF time at La Caverna. Hmmm... we are both wearing sweaters, pearls, and crazy awesome tights. Was this planned? Yanope. So typical!
The next time Lu & Lolly will be united is early May... until then, we continue our 'long distance relationship' and will share the fun-ness of our lives :)

World Travelers
Traveling is a hobby that Lu and Lolly share. Lolly is currently en route to AFRICA! Lu desperately wanted to go with her - darn real life and responsibilities.
Here's a map of the places that we've collectively been to
(which is really just fun way to say that Lu's been to Europe and Lolly's been to Costa Rica & Africa)
We've visited 15 Countries (6.66%)
Create your own visited map of The World
We have not travelled much together...this needs to be fixed.

Boston Part 3: What We Ate
We decided we better have two desserts a day while in Boston, so we did. Lu loved the keylime cupcake from Sweets Cupcakes. Lolly is a regular there. We also got huge treats from Mike's Pastry and split desserts at a local Brighton bakery (with super cool tree chandeliers) and some JP Licks.
We also went out to lunch at Quincy Market (where we got two ethnic versions of chicken and rice), Smoken' Joes BBQ (with food bigger than our faces) and delicious cheap pizza at Pinocchios.
