This was Catie's last weekend of her many June visits (thanks fellowship). Naturally, we had to do lots and lots!
Saturday
We met up at the Brooklyn Flea Market where we wandered around all the treasures, junk and random oddities. Lu fell in love with a desk set. We both got lots of free samples and tried some good food - a blood orange donut, grilled corn on the cob with cheese and a BBQ pork sandwich.
We then wandered around Brooklyn and picked out future apartments/townhouses. It was such a friendly neighborhood. There was even a little park close by. Lolly was feeling it so much that she started feeding the birds... she doesn't even like birds.
As we continued exploring Brooklyn we came upon an ASPCA van that had cats for adoption. Lu had to drag Lolly away and distract her with the prospect of free soda ahead. Lu had spotted people giving out what looked like Sprite. It was in fact SunDrop soda which is essentially caffeinated Sprite. We danced for free SunDrop tote bags and a random took our picture. Oh the things we'll do for free stuff... Then we headed to the Fulton Mall, which is in a less lovely part of Brooklyn. But, we did get some great deals on jewelry at Aeropostale of all places. And we met Justin Bieber.
Can you believe we're still just talking about Saturday? Then we went to a free pre-screening of "Horrible Bosses" where we got free shot glasses. It was a random takeaway that did not correlate well with the movie. Afterward, we braved Time Square for a little bit of shopping.
Sunday
After a lazy morning and church, Courtney and her roommate Rachel hosted a dinner group which on this occasion became a brinner group (breakfast for dinner). Lu and Lolly prepped batter for crepes and pancakes, shredded potatoes for hash browns, and when the guest arrived with their culinary contributions we had quite the smorgasbord! Pancakes (blueberry or s'mores), fruit salad, fresh farm eggs a la Lu (scrambled with cheese), 2 types of sausage, hash browns, bacon, juice and virgin mimosas, toppings such as whipped cream, and syrup... because there was such an abundance of breakfast fare, everyone was too full of pan Nutella cakes and having too much fun 'noshing' for crepes but chances are the batter will not go to waste and find its way into our midnight snack lineup. It was a good group of people, and though short and sweet, was a nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
